🚫 Understanding “Connection Not Private” Errors

If your bidders see a “Connection Not Private” error when accessing your landing page, don’t panic — this is usually a result of local Wi-Fi filters or link tracking from email providers. This article explains why this happens and how to guide your guests through it.

📶 Why Wi-Fi Can Cause Privacy Errors

Some public or private Wi-Fi networks have strict security filters that mistakenly block or flag secure pages like your ClickBid landing page. This results in a browser warning saying the connection isn’t private.

  • Bidders can safely ignore this message and continue.

  • Alternatively, they can turn off Wi-Fi and use cellular data to bypass the issue.

Recommend advising your bidders to switch to cellular data if they encounter this message frequently.

đź“© Link Tracking and URL Changes

When you share your landing page link through an email service that uses click tracking (like Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc.), the URL in the received email may be altered. These altered URLs sometimes fail to redirect properly to the secure ClickBid page, triggering a connection error.

  • Click tracking rewrites URLs to track clicks.

  • Some rewritten URLs may not convert properly to secure (HTTPS) versions.

  • If possible, consider disabling click tracking for your event URLs.

Click tracking services modify links to help monitor engagement but can interfere with secure page redirects.

⚠️ What Bidders Should Do

  1. If they see a “Connection Not Private” error:

    • Tap Advanced or similar browser options.

    • Choose to Proceed Anyway (this is safe for your landing page).

  2. Or:

    • Turn off Wi-Fi on their device.

    • Use cellular data to access your landing page.

  3. Consider sending your link in plain text (without click tracking) when possible.

Do not assume all bidders will know to bypass this message — provide clear instructions or alternate access methods if needed.
