🏷️ Items: How to Use Custom Item Tags 

This article explains how to use Custom Item Tags in ClickBid to efficiently organize and filter auction items. You’ll learn how to create new tags, assign them to items in bulk or individually, delete tags when they’re no longer needed, and even update tags during or after bidder checkout using the Butler. These tags make it easy to categorize items, track donations, and simplify reporting.

👀 What Are Custom Item Tags?

Custom Item Tags act like digital sticky notes for your auction items. They help you organize and quickly identify items under Items > Manage Items. These tags appear in the Tags column on the right side of the screen and can also be filtered to display specific groups of items.

This is great for:

  • Tracking donation sources

  • Flagging VIP packages

  • Grouping similar items for reporting or review

 

➕ How to Create Custom Item Tags

  1. Go to Items > Manage Items.

  2. Scroll down to the Tag Name field at the bottom of the page.

  3. Type the name of your new tag into the field.

  4. Click Create Tag.

  5. Your new tag will now appear in the tags list.

🏷️ How to Assign Tags to Items (Bulk & Individual)

✅ Bulk Tagging (Assign Multiple Items at Once)
  1. In Items > Manage Items, select the checkboxes for the items you want to tag.

  2. Click the Assign Custom Tag dropdown.

  3. Select the desired tag from the dropdown list. (Note: The tag must already be created.)

  4. Click Update.

  5. Click Ok to confirm.

Your selected items will now display the tag in the Tags column.

You can also filter the Tags column to only display items with a specific tag.

✅ Tagging an Item Individually
  1. In Items > Manage Items, click the green pencil icon next to the item you want to tag.

  2. Scroll down to the Custom Tags section.

  3. Click the + next to the tag(s) you want to apply.

  4. Save your changes.

🗑️ How to Delete a Custom Tag

  1. Go to Items > Manage Items.

  2. Click Delete Tags at the bottom of the page.

  3. Select the tag you want to delete.

  4. Click Ok to confirm.

  5. Click Finish Deleting.

Any items previously assigned this tag will lose it automatically after deletion.

 

⚙️ How to Adjust Item Tags in the Butler (During Checkout)

You can also update item tags through the Butler tool during bidder checkout.

✅ During Checkout:
  1. Search for the bidder under Bidder Lookup and click Checkout.

  2. Click Update Item Tags.

  3. Select or adjust tags as needed.

  4. Finish checking the bidder out.

✅ After Checkout:
  1. In the Butler, go to Paid Items for the bidder.

  2. Click to update the item tags.

Adjusting tags after checkout allows you to fine-tune reporting or fix mistakes later.
