Item Types in ClickBid define how your auction items will function during your event. Selecting the right item type ensures items behave correctly during bidding and checkout—whether they’re silent auction items, donations, or set-price sales.

This guide walks you through each item type, with tips on how and when to use them.

⚙️ How to Select an Item Type

  1. Go to Items > Manage Items.

  2. Under Add New Item, locate the Item Type dropdown menu.

🔍 Overview of Each Item Type

âś… Silent

For mobile bidding silent auction items.

  • Allows you to set:

    • Starting bid

    • Bid increments

    • Buy Now price

    • Fair Market Value (FMV)

  • Guests bid through their phones.

Silent items work best for online bidding; live items are strictly in-person.

âś… Live

For items auctioned live by an auctioneer (not available for online bidding).

  • Admin enters the winning bidder manually via the Butler.

  • You can still show the item on your Landing Page for preview purposes.

  • FMV can be added for display or receipts.

âś… Donation

Used for:

  • Fund-a-Need appeals

  • Paddle Raise donations

  • Online donations
    You can:

  • Set denomination buttons for fast giving.

  • Enable Projected Display Settings (interactive display on Landing Page or at the event).

  • Customize display themes, donation goals, and more.

Use Projected Display Settings with donation items for an engaging live donation tracker.

âś… Quantity

Perfect for items sold at a fixed price—common for:

  • Raffle tickets

  • Game buy-ins

    You can:

  • Set price per quantity.

  • Limit quantity available.

Similar to silent items, but:

  • Bidding amounts are hidden from participants.

  • Winner is determined automatically at closing based on highest bid.

âś… Credit

Used to add a dollar credit to a bidder’s account (reduces their total due at checkout).

âś… Info

For internal tracking only:

  • Can’t be seen by bidders or appear online.

  • Only accessible via the Butler.

  • Useful for adding notes that show on receipts but not on the bidding site.

Info items are hidden from bidders—use only for internal admin purposes.

✨ Additional Item Settings (Optional)

No matter the item type, you can further customize your items:

  1. Custom Descriptions

    • Add detailed descriptions for bidders.

    • Use Auction GPT (AI-powered) to help write item descriptions.

  2. Exceptions

    • Add details like blackout dates, shipping restrictions, or special rules.

    • Auction GPT can assist here, too!

  3. Internal Notes

    • Admin-only notes (e.g., table locations, solicitor details).

  4. Donor Information

    • Record donor name, contact info, and address for each item.

  5. Item Images

    • Upload up to 10 images per item (JPEG or PNG).

    • Rearrange by drag-and-drop for preferred order.

  6. Custom Tags

    • Add internal tags for sorting or reporting (e.g., “gift card”).
