🔁 How to Run a Second Chance Auction in ClickBid

📝 What Is a Second Chance Auction?

A second chance auction allows you to extend bidding after your original auction has closed—perfect for:

  • Re-engaging guests who missed the event

  • Selling unsold items

  • Raising additional funds post-event

📌 Info: Second chance auctions are common for virtual or hybrid events and can help maximize donor participation and final revenue.

📧 Step 1: Contact Your Account Manager

To begin:

Ask to extend your auction’s closing date so that you can reopen bidding.

⚠️ Note: This change must be made by the ClickBid support team.

💡 Pro Tip: Plan Ahead!

If you think you’ll want to run a second chance auction:

✅ Extend your event’s closing date before your main event happens.

This makes for a seamless transition and avoids confusion for bidders or volunteers.

🛠️ Step 2: Adjust Item Closing Times

Once your overall event close date has been updated by support:

  1. Go to ItemsManage Items

  2. Select all items (or specific ones you want to reopen)

  3. Scroll down and click Batch Update

  4. Choose Closing Time and Status

  5. Enter the new date/time when you want the second chance auction to end and choose the Active Status.

  6. Click Update Items

💡 Tip: Only update the closing date and status of correct items. Adjusting a previoiusly won item's status and closing date may result in miscommunication for winning bidders.

✅ Final Reminders

  • You can reopen all items or just a select few

  • Make sure to update marketing and donor communications

  • Consider hiding items you don’t want to relist by placing those item's status to Invisible.

📌 Info: You can track new bidding activity and final winners just like you did in your original auction—no need to create a new event.
