🔁 How to Split Payment Between Bidders for One Item

While silent auction items in ClickBid can only have one winner, there’s a workaround if multiple bidders want to split the cost of a single item. This article walks you through how to convert an item and process shared payments—perfect for paddle-raises, big-ticket items, or friendly co-bidders.

🛑 Silent Items Can't Be Split—Here's What to Do

Silent items by default can't be split between bidders. But you can turn a silent item into a live item, which gives you full flexibility to share costs and assign portions of payment to multiple people.

⚙️ Step 1: Prepare the Silent Item for Split Payment

1. Go to the Items section in your admin.

2. Click Manage Items.

3. Find the item and click has bids.

     4. Click the red X to remove all existing bids.

     5. Change the Item Type to Live.

     6. Click Save.

➕ Step 2: Add the Live Item to Each Bidder’s Cart

1. Go to Event Central.

2. Click Butler.

3. In the Add a Bid/Multi-Sale section:

   • Enter the bidder’s name.

   • Enter the item number.

   • Enter the split amount (e.g., 500 if they are paying half of a $1000 item).

     4. Repeat this process for each bidder who is contributing to the payment.

🧾 Optional: Adjust FMV for Accurate Receipts

If the Fair Market Value (FMV) should be split across multiple bidders:

• Go back to Items > Manage Items.

• Edit the item and reduce the FMV proportionally (e.g., cut in half if splitting between two).

🔁 Splitting Payment for Live Items

Already working with a live item and want to split it after a bid has been placed?

1. Go to Items > Manage Items.

2. Click has bids next to the item.

3. Remove the existing winning bid by clicking the red X.

4. Go to Event Central > Butler.

5. In the Add a Bid/Multi-Sale section, add each bidder manually using:

   • Bidder’s name

   • Item number

   • Split amount

Repeat for each person sharing the cost.
