Max Bidding/Auto Bid

Max Bidding

Max bidding gives your bidders the ability to place a bid for the highest amount they are willing to pay on a particular item and hold that bid without letting any other bidder know that there is a max bid set. When someone else sees the item that has a max bid placed on it they will see the amount that anyone has tried placing a regular bid on, If they try to place a regular bid they will have a red note that shows them the amount the bid is not available. No outbid text goes out to these bids because they instantly know they have been outbid.

  • View when pulling up the item on the bidding site

  • Click Bid/Set Max, and select the maximum amount you want to spend on this item:

  • Click Set Max to allow the system to bid on your behalf until your max bid has been met

  • The item you placed a max bid on will show you how much your max was. No one else can see how much your max bid was.

If you are looking to see if a bidder has placed a max bid go to Bidders > Manage Bidders > Click on "has bids" on the far right of the screen. If someone has placed a max bid and another bidder tried bidding on that item there will be a Bid Type of Auto, this is what kicks in to place an automatic bid until the max bid has been met

What does “Auto” mean for Bid Type?

When Auto is listed under "Bid Type" it means that that bidder has a max bid placed and that this was a bid placed automatically for them.

How can 2 bidders place the same bid amount?

When Auto is listed under "Bid Type" it means that that bidder has a max bid placed. If two are showing at the same amount listed in the admin, it means that the one with the "Regular" Bid Type triggered the other's "true" max bid- the actual amount that they set as their max bid. Because the max bid was placed first, that bidder is the one who is winning the item at that amount.

For example:

There is only one winner here. If someone puts in a max bid for a certain amount, their bid is the one that counts at that amount. Bidder #106 should have had a red message pop up on their screen as they were trying to place that bid saying "Sorry the next available bid is now ____. Please try a higher bid." because #105 had their "max bid" in first at $80.

You can turn off the Max Bidding Feature by going to Software Settings > Auction Settings > General Event Details
